Grail Reliquary

 I have always wanted one of the original original Grail Reliquary units. I looked around on Etsy for some alternative models lately and came across this excellent piece:

The "leader" of the reliquary base is actually a 3D printed priest model, originally meant to complement Empire troops I think but works well here.

The other miniatures are actually a mixture of a range of different sprues that I got from eBay, they include:

28mm Gripping Beast viking hirdmen

Conquest Medieval archer sprues 28mm Dark ages

Oathmark Human Infantry sprue (NEW TO RANGE)

Frostgrave Soldiers 28mm Sprue

This worked out a lot cheaper than any other option and gives a bit of a unique look to the unit.

Archers! Fire!

Another unit of archers done. Again, like with every Man at Arms unit, they will be matching one of the Knights of the Realm in terms of colours.

Squires! Mount up!

So with my 20+ year fear of putting any paint anywhere near my Bretonnians I have finally made a start. Well... at least they are riding a horse. These mounted squires are my gateway into tackling the massive number of knights waiting for a paint job.

The plan here is to make each of the four units I have attached to my large knight household or city with a common colour scheme. They may even match some of the men at arms schemes to represent an important noble bringing some of his units with him to battle

With these now complete I have actually started painting up two Knights Errant. These will literally be my first knights I have ever painted since I started collecting this army more than 20 years ago!

Bretonnians - the lowly peasant

So finally I get round to making some more progress on the spearmen, as well as using the grass tufts I got for Christmas.

Painting Moonraker & Spearmen

Work has been as busy as ever and so has home life so I have not been able to break out the paints as often as I would like to relax. However I have slowly made some improvements to the miniatures mentioned in the previous post, as well as another unit of Bretonnians that have been primed ready to go for a year!

I still like the sculpts. I think perhaps some of the hands are a little out of proportion but they have some interesting details and I do not think they would go amiss in the realms of 40K as civilians, advisors, henchmen, background scenary, dioramas, objectives etc.

I also bought a new lamp (Ikea but I got it from ebay second hand) and a daylight bulb (from Lightbulbs Direct - good price and a wide range of stuff). It means I do not have to squint even when I have the 15 bulbs on in the front room (yes... 15 of the damn things and it is still a bit dim for painting)

Men at Arms

Finished off a unit of Men at Arms (then realised I had not done their shields... sigh... will do those with the Foot Knight's shields when I dig them out). Same sort of deliberate 'drab' look as the Foot Squires but with at least a common theme of colour to show they may have come from a single Knight's land.

More Foot Knights

More Foot Knights! And why not? These still need their shields doing (well some have shields) but they are more or less there. Coupled with the several units of Men at Arms, bowmen and other Foot Knights I am working on the infantry is coming along nicely.
